GroomU interviews Matthew Pike…

Name, age, name of blog and where your from/based?

Matthew Pike, 28, Buckets & Spades, based Lancashire, England.

Tell us about your blog, what do you base your content around/where do you get your inspiration from?

The blog started in 2008 as a way to collate and store images while I was studying at uni. I found great inspiration within the very small blogging community back then and just continued to write. I started as Fashion Blog but soon I became to explore design, graphics, illustration, tech, advertising and lifestyle. I’ll post about anything relevant to me, be that a new coffee shop or conceptual marketing ideas.

What does it mean to you to be recognised as the 2014 ‘best group blog’ winner?

It’s extremely flattering and an amazing achievement for both myself and our two contributors, Nik + Yasumi (both based in London). It’s not something you ever expect so when the news came through we couldn’t have been more delighted.

Where do you hope that your blog will take you in the future?

I started to work full time on the blog in August 2013, so I put all my time into it. I’d like to start working with brands I’ve formed relationship with on the blog, on a personal level. So start to develop new products and marketing + social media strategist. I’d also like to have a total redesign of the site, making it more functional and easier to read.

Name the one grooming product that you can’t live without and why?

I’d say the humble shaving brush, I keep a short beard but for all the rest I use a wet razor. I’ve been using a badger brush for a few months and really feeling the benefits of it. I do a double shave, using the think foam twice. Also maybe I feel slightly swankier than I actually am! It would be nothing without decent blades though, that’s my top tip. Don’t over-use.
